In November 2023, she changed her name from “Ai Nina” to “nina” and will hold her first solo exhibition under the new name, “AfterBirth,” in which she will present new works that reveal the inner instincts and true nature of the human figure she has been depicting, on the theme of the raw physicality that is being lost in a modern society where digital communication is at its height. The theme is the raw physicality that is being lost in today’s society, where digital communication has become the dominant form of communication. He has been challenging the expression technique using multiple media such as oil paintings, drawings, three-dimensional works, and display works. The exhibition was directed by the gallery “CON_” in Bakurocho, Nihonbashi.
An artist statement was also released on the occasion of the exhibition.
Throughout various encounters and opportunities, I have been blessed to showcase my work in many places. In the process, I have finally been able to connect fragments of my accumulated thoughts within, giving birth to new fruits.
I am delighted to announce my first solo exhibition.
This exhibition revolves around the central theme of ‘not wanting to forget the body.’
In the midst of daily life, relying on machines, and being overwhelmed by the flood of information while continuously expanding the self, I felt I was losing the axis of my humanity. I harbored a constant fear that if I continued expanding the self in this way, I would eventually forget everything – the axis, instincts, and disappear like mist.
Truly believable things are surely more life-sized. Believing in the loved ones right in front of you, the tangible sensations that linger in your hands – I want to believe that these are ultimately everything. With these thoughts in mind, I constructed this exhibition.
Revealing such self-indulgent aspects for the first time has been a unique experience. Expressing my humble beliefs held within, and delving into them with the team, has been an incredibly luxurious and happy time. I remember experiencing the illusion of capturing the contours of myself for the first time in my life.
I hope you will take the time to visit and share in this new challenge. Please enjoy the experience!
