SEASIDE CINEMA 2024,” one of the largest outdoor cinema festivals in Japan, will be held from April 30 (Tuesday) to May 6 (Monday, national holiday).
The event will be held in Minato Mirai, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, and will feature free screenings of classic films under the night sky. The six venues are Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, MARINE & WALK YOKOHAMA, Yokohama Bay Quarter, Yokohama World Porters, Pacifico Yokohama, and Yokohama Hammerhead, where visitors can enjoy various film-themed experiences such as a marché and poster exhibition as well as an outdoor theater.
At the venue in Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, named “THEATER RED BRICK,” an oversized 450-inch screen will be set up to show five films from the “Wild Speed” series from May 2 (Thursday) to 6 (Monday, national holiday), which can be viewed while enjoying the night view of Minatomirai on the grass vegetation.
At MARINE & WALK YOKOHAMA’s “THEATER MARINE & WALK,” “Masterpieces for Cinema Fans” will be screened from May 3 (Fri., holiday) to 6 (Mon., holiday) on a screen set up in a seaside location with a night view of Minato Mirai and the sound of waves. a 24 films, “aftersun,” “Everything Everywhere at Once,” and four 1990s classics, “Buffalo ’66” and “Reality Bites,” can be viewed on different days and enjoyed together with takeout items from the food and beverage outlets in the facility. At THEATER BAY QUARTER in Yokohama Bay Quarter, four films from the popular series will be screened from May 3 (Fri., holiday) to 6 (Mon., holiday) under the theme of “Cinematic Readers for Everyone” for all generations to enjoy. Jurassic World: The New Reign” featuring many dinosaurs, “The Matrix” with Keanu Reeves as the savior of mankind, “Ghostbusters” with its unique characters trying to exterminate ghosts, and “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” an action epic with Marvel’s most popular superhero. The lineup includes “The Matrix,” featuring the main characters of “Ghostbusters” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” a superhero action epic representing Marvel’s most iconic superheroes.
At Yokohama World Porters, a one-day open-air theater will appear on the rooftop as “THEATER WORLD PORTERS” on May 3 (Friday, national holiday). The Super Mario Brothers Movie,” an animated film based on the world of Nintendo’s popular game series “Super Mario Brothers,” will be screened in this open-air space with a view of the Giant Ferris Wheel “Cosmo Clock 21.
THEATER PACIFICO” at Pacifico Yokohama, the only indoor venue of its kind, will feature a large screen in the Marine Lobby of the National Grand Hall, with the sea and sky stretching out before it, to show the action blockbuster “Top Gun,” which catapulted Tom Cruise to stardom on Tuesday, April 30, and the sequel, “Top Gun: The Super Mario Brothers Movie” on Wednesday, May 1. The sequel, “Top Gun: Maverick,” will be screened on Wednesday, May 1. Food will be sold by kitchen cars in the outdoor area.
At Yokohama Hammerhead, “CINEMA MARCHE HAMMERHEAD” will feature a “Cinema Marche” with movie-related goods and apparel items. An exhibition of posters of famous films will also be held in the facility, and the famous songs played during the plays of famous films will be played as the museum’s background music for a limited time.
Admission is free at all venues, but numbered tickets are required for some venues. Due to the nature of this outdoor cinema festival, some venues recommend bringing cushions or rugs, but chairs and tents are not allowed. The festival will be held rain or shine, but will be suspended or cancelled in case of inclement weather.
