K Ballet OPT’s stage production “Cinderella’s House” will be performed at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space Playhouse in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, from April 27 (Sat) to 29 (Mon).
Based on the book “Cinderella,” the play is based on the book of poems “Cinderella ni nai naranai,” written by poet Tahi Saikatsu. The play depicts the “paradox of love and hope” found by a young carer who spends her days taking care of her grandfather, mother, and sister-in-law, and who is hated because she loves them. A comment from Saika has also been released on the occasion of the performance.
I believe that the ability to wish for happiness is a blessing in itself. Recognizing oneself as someone who can wish for happiness grants a sense of freedom. There are people who, for various reasons, cannot even express the seemingly ordinary desire for happiness. The emotions they’ve stopped putting into words, leaving unspoken, now sway like sunlight on the sea, undefined. I thought it would be wonderful if, without imposing judgments or making assumptions, I could transform those feelings into the language of poetry.
Tahi Saikohi
Even under the label of ‘young carer,’ each ‘I’ has its own story, and it’s not about ‘the story of young carers’ but about the countless ‘my stories’ and ‘our stories.’ Whether through dance or poetry, I believe they can express the myriad ‘I’s and ‘we’ as they are, without trying to represent a singular narrative.
That’s why I have faith that these expressions will reach someone.
