The film ‘Blue Period’ will be exclusively available for unlimited streaming on Prime Video starting February 7 (Friday).
Released on August 9, 2024, the film is an adaptation of Tsubasa Yamaguchi’s manga of the same name, starring Gordon Maeda and directed by Kentarō Hagiwara. The story follows a high school student, Yatora Yaguchi, who excels academically and is well-liked by others, but feels unfulfilled by living in accordance with societal expectations. After discovering a single painting, he decides to pursue the world of art seriously, aiming for the highly competitive Tokyo University of the Arts. Maeda plays Yaguchi, with Fumiya Takahashi as his classmate Ryūji Ayukawa, who struggles with his own passions; Rihito Itagaki plays Setasuke Takahashi, a genius rival with extraordinary artistic talent; and Hiyori Sakurada portrays Maru Mori, a senior in the art club. Additional cast members include Hikaru Ishida, Noriko Eguchi, and Hiroko Yakushimaru.
The screenplay is written by Reiko Yoshida, who also worked on the anime adaptation of Blue Period, while the music is composed by Yaffle. The theme song is by WurtS, and the in-film songs include “Sakani” by Skaai, “Mata Aou” by Shōta Aratani, and “Kōkei-ga” by Yūjin Aramaki.
