A newly restored 4K version of Studio Ghibli’s Whisper of the Heart will screen in IMAX theaters across Japan for a limited run from October 23 to November 2.
Overseen by Studio Ghibli, the restoration brings new clarity to the film’s animation, highlighting both the fantasy world imagined by protagonist Shizuku Tsukishima and the beauty of its everyday settings. A 4K restoration of The Secret World of Arrietty will also screen in IMAX during the same period.
A new IMAX poster has been unveiled on the film’s official website, featuring a memorable nighttime scene in which Seiji Amasawa walks Shizuku home while pushing his bicycle.
The film will also receive a wider theatrical release across all 47 prefectures of Japan from October 30 to November 12, including Dolby Cinema screenings. Screenings with English subtitles will begin on October 30.
