Emerald will release their new album “Neo Oriented” on Wednesday, August 28.
Emerald plays unique city pop music that combines the sounds of jazz, neo-soul, and AOR with the context of Japanese pop music, and in 2023 sold out the second day of the “Tokyo Cruise” at BLUE NOTE PLACE in Ebisu, Tokyo, and performed at large-scale events such as the “TAMATAMA FESTIVAL” organized and produced by NiEW. This is their first full-length album in seven years since 2017’s “Pavlov City,” and while showing their admiration for jazz, neo-soul, and AOR, music from overseas that has strongly influenced them, the songs were created with a strong awareness of the various contexts of “Japan,” the place where they were born and raised. The album is said to be a work that shows their current location and the beginning of their new activities.
Etsuko (Cho) of DADARAY and Yusuke (Gt) of TAMTAM, who have participated in the past as supporting musicians, continue to participate in the album. The album will be mixed/mastered by Daisuke Yamashita, who also participated in Emerald’s 1st and 2nd albums. NiEW is providing creative support.
In conjunction with the album release, the band will hold an album release tour “Ray of hope” in September in Tokyo, Nagoya, Nagoya, and Osaka, with First Love is Never Returned as guests at Shinsaibashi CONPASS in Osaka on September 7 (Sat), Nagoya stiff slack in Aichi on September 8 (Sun), and Tokyo on September 20 (Fri). On September 20 (Fri.), they will hold their first solo live performance at Tokyo Kinema Club in Uguisudani, Tokyo, in two years since their performance at Shibuya WWW X in 2022. Tickets are available on June 16 (Sun.).
It’s like a sudden realization that seven years have passed without releasing an album.

During this time, the music landscape has evolved in various ways, and it’s astonishing how swiftly time flies.
The album production evolved from traditional studio work to a process where arrangements and performances were meticulously crafted in each member’s personal space.
Nevertheless, or perhaps because of this shift, we’ve successfully preserved Emerald’s essence and produced a more innovative work. I confidently call it our masterpiece!
As a lyricist and poet, I feel this is the most deeply personal work I’ve ever created.
I hope listeners will delight in the diverse sounds woven together by our six members and supporting musicians, discovering new nuances with each listen.
