Christopher Nolan’s latest film “Oppenheimer” will be released in Japan in 2024.
The film is a biopic of Robert Oppenheimer, the American physicist who developed the atomic bomb. The film depicts the untold life of a man with the contradiction of holding the fate of the world in his hands and at the same time facing the danger of destroying it, with the immersive experience of IMAX cinematography.
Directed/written by Christopher Nolan. Cillian Murphy stars in the film, along with Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek, and Kenneth Branagh.
While the film was released in the U.S. in July and became a smash hit, grossing over 950 million dollars (about 142.5 billion yen) worldwide, a Japanese release had not been decided due to the nature of the film’s content. Bitters End, the film’s distributor, released the following comment on the decision to release the film in Japan.
Bitters End will release Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” in Japan in 2024. We have decided to release the film in Japan after much discussion and consideration because the subject matter of the film is very important and has special meaning for us Japanese. After viewing the film, we believe that the one-of-a-kind cinematic experience by director Christopher Nolan, which transcends traditional theatrical techniques, deserves to be seen on the big screen. We hope that audiences will be able to see the film for themselves when it opens in Japan.
