“Collection Exhibition 2: Electricity – Sound” will be held at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa from November 18 (Sat) to May 12 (Sun), 2024.
The exhibition focuses on the relationship between “sound” and “electricity” in the museum’s collection, exhibiting works from the museum’s visual and sonic collections, including German artist Karsten Nicolai’s installation “Realistic,” which will be on view for the first time since the 2008 collection exhibition, and John Cage’s print “Fontana Mix,” which will be on view for the first time since the 2022 collection. The exhibition will feature 45 works, including three prints from the “Fontana Mix” series by John Cage, which will be exhibited for the first time since the collection was acquired in 2022, and “Event Pieces” and “Vials of Music” series by Masako Shiomi, a well-known member of the international art group “Fluxus.”
In addition, artists born in the 1990s, Chimichi Komatsu and Tomohito Wakui, have been invited to present their works. Komatsu’s new work “Earless” will be exhibited, and Shiomi’s “Event Pieces” and “Water Music” will be reproduced using Komatsu and Wakui’s own interpretation and means.
