Special Exhibition: Ryoji Ikeda” will be held at 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, Ishikawa, from November 18 (Sat) to May 12 (Sun), 2024.
Ryoji Ikeda, a visual artist and composer, creates immersive concerts and installations based on meticulous research, as well as stage productions, public art, and a wide range of other activities. He has held solo exhibitions around the world, including at the Park Avenue Armory in New York and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, and has participated in numerous international exhibitions, including the “Aichi Triennale” in 2010 and the “Venice Biennale” in 2019.
The exhibition will be held in conjunction with this year’s theme of “Art x New Technology” at 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, and will feature his new installation “data.gram [nº6],” consisting of 23 video works, including previously unreleased works.
data.gram [nº6]” is a work that creatively reconstructs the enormous amount of big data collected from research in the natural science field, such as CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research), NASA, and the Human Genome Project, by visualizing and sonifying it with extremely precise computer programming. The audio-visual installation depicts the world on three different scales: the microscopic world of nature, including subatomic particles, the world surrounding humans, and the macroscopic world of nature extending to the periphery of the universe.
