The Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions 2024, an international festival of images and art, will be held from February 2 (Fri.) to February 18 (Sun.), 2024, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography and Yebisu Garden Place Center Square and other locations.
The theme of the exhibition is “What is an image? The overall theme for 2024 is “30 Ways to Go to the Moon,” and the festival will explore this theme through various forms of expression, mainly photography and video, in an attempt to think about it not only with the artists but also with the audience who will participate in the festival.
In addition, this year’s exhibition focuses on the “one-time nature of images. A new spatial configuration will be developed to create a dialogue with the audience. While video is an art of reproduction, it is a work of art that is focused on the once-only nature, which is the opposite of repetition and non-location, a performance, a unique piece, a work that addresses the depth and limits of time in which it is impossible to witness (view) everything, and a work that is completed on the spot by letting physical actions and thoughts act on the video production process. The exhibition will also feature a number of works that seem to be completed and disappear on the spot by allowing physical action and thought to be a part of the filmmaking process.
The “Commission Project,” which began with the previous festival, will also continue. The “Yebisu Film Festival 2024” will feature a special exhibition by Araki Yu and Kim In Suk, who won a special award in the previous festival. During the festival, the results of the selection of four artists for the second commission project will also be announced by five members of the jury, all of whom are experts in the field of visual expression, from Japan and abroad.
In addition, there will be workshops, live events, talk events, and other events in which people can freely participate. Details of the program will be announced in mid-December.
