The exhibition “Wim Wenders’s Lucid Gaze” will be held at N&A Art SITE in Nakameguro, Tokyo, from February 1 (Thu).
The exhibition, held as part of the community collaboration program of the “Ebisu Film Festival 2024,” focuses on Wim Wenders, a German filmmaker who made his feature film directorial debut in 1970 with “Summer in the City.” Wenders gained acclaim with works such as winning the Golden Lion at the 39th Venice International Film Festival for “The State of Things” in 1982, the Palme d’Or at the 37th Cannes Film Festival for “Paris, Texas” in 1984, and the Best Director award at the 40th Cannes International Film Festival for “Wings of Desire” in 1987. His latest directorial work, the film “PERFECT DAYS,” starring Koji Yakusho, has been nominated for the Best International Feature Film category at the 96th Academy Awards. In addition to his film career, Wenders is active as a photographer and has held exhibitions at prominent venues like the Pompidou Centre in Paris, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in Spain, and the Shanghai Museum of Art in China.
In this exhibition, Wenders will present “Electronic Paintings,” a series of electronic paintings inspired by the climactic scene in his 1991 film “Until the End of the World” which he calls “the ultimate road movie,” as well as photographs of Midwestern landscapes he took on location for “Paris, Texas, The “Written in the west” series, which was a turning point in his career as a photographer, will be exhibited.
