The Tokyo Photographic Art Museum in Ebisu will host “Robert Capa: War,” a photography exhibition running from March 15 (Saturday) to May 11 (Sunday), 2025.
Robert Capa (1913–1954), one of the most renowned war photographers of the 20th century, spent over two decades covering battlefields worldwide. From the Spanish Civil War and the Second Sino-Japanese War to World War II, his photographs captured the intensity of war with unparalleled realism. Often described as the “poet of the camera,” Capa approached his work with a deep commitment to documenting human suffering and resilience. His images, filled with raw emotion, not only depict the brutal realities of war but also highlight moments of humanity, humor, and compassion.
This exhibition will feature around 140 selected works from the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum’s extensive collection of approximately 1,000 prints. Among the highlights are “The Falling Soldier,” a striking image from the Spanish Civil War, and “D-Day,” which documents the chaos of the Normandy landings. The exhibition will also showcase Capa’s final photographs from the First Indochina War, taken just before he tragically lost his life to a landmine.
Arranged in a chronological narrative, the exhibition offers visitors an opportunity to experience Capa’s groundbreaking work and understand the power of photojournalism in shaping the way war is perceived.
