The latest addition to the beloved Gundam franchise, titled ‘Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX,’ has been officially announced, complete with a teaser visual and special preview.
This new project marks the first collaboration between Studio Khara, renowned for the Evangelion series, and Sunrise, the production company behind the Gundam legacy. The film is directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki, known for his work on ‘Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time’ and the ‘Rebuild of Evangelion’ films. The series composition is handled by Yoji Enokido, who has a rich history with ‘Sailor Moon S’ and ‘Neon Genesis Evangelion,’ with Hideaki Anno contributing to the script alongside Enokido.
The story centers on Amate Yuzuriha, a high school girl who lives a peaceful life in a space colony. Her world is turned upside down when she meets Nyaan, a war refugee, and gets caught up in the illegal mobile suit duel competition known as “Clan Battle.” Around the same time, an enigmatic mobile suit called “Gundam” and its pilot, a boy named Shuji, appear and are pursued by both the space military and police. Amate, adopting the entry name “Machu,” takes to piloting the GQuuuuuuX and enters the life of battles. The cast includes Tomoyo Kurosawa as Amate, Yui Ishikawa as Nyaan, and Shinba Tsuchiya as Shuji Ito.
The anime is set to air on the NTV network. Ahead of its broadcast, a special version titled ‘Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-‘ will be released in theaters starting January 17 (Friday), with select episodes restructured for the cinema.
I’m Tomoyo Kurosawa, and I had the privilege of playing Machu.
During the production, I was once again immersed in the powerful and passionate legacy of “Gundam,” which both inspired and challenged me to give my all. This high-energy film, full of Director Tsurumaki’s distinctive style, truly shines on screen. I’m eagerly looking forward to its release.
— Tomoyo Kurosawa (Amate Yuzuriha)
Nyann, a former refugee, has difficulty communicating with others, but she is a strong person who has managed to survive on her own. In this story, she makes her first real friend, and we see how she gets drawn into the events that follow. Even we couldn’t imagine what kind of conclusion we’d reach! I hope everyone looks forward to Studio Khara’s version of Mobile Suit Gundam!
— Yui Ishikawa (Nyann)
Getting cast in this project was a complete shock to me. At first glance, Shuji may seem hard to grasp and have an eccentric vibe, but the words he speaks are his reality and natural to him. I made sure to keep the sense of him as an ordinary boy while delivering my lines. I hope you’ll think deeply about his character!
— Shimba Tsuchiya (Shuuji Itou)
