Kenshi Yonezu’s new single “Plazma” has revealed its cover art, and the full version is set for digital release on Monday, January 20.
The song serves as the theme for the latest installment of the popular Gundam anime series, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX (GX). A segment of the track was previously featured in the official trailer for Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-, a theatrical adaptation of selected episodes from the TV series.
In line with the theatrical release of the pre-screened version on Friday, January 17, Yonezu shared the specially designed cover art for the song on his social media accounts on Thursday, January 16. The artwork prominently features Amate Yuzuriha, the main character of the series.
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX marks the first collaboration between Studio Khara, known for the Evangelion series, and Sunrise, the studio behind the Gundam franchise. Directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki, who helmed works like Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time and other Rebuild of Evangelion films, the series boasts a script supervised by Yoji Enokido (Sailor Moon S, Neon Genesis Evangelion). Enokido also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Hideaki Anno. The anime is set to air on Nippon TV networks.
The story follows Amate Yuzuriha, a high school girl leading a peaceful life in a floating space colony. Her life takes a drastic turn when she meets Nyan, a young war refugee, and gets caught up in the illegal mobile suit combat sport known as “Clan Battle.” Around the same time, an unidentified mobile suit called “Gundam” and its pilot, a mysterious boy named Shuji, appear before her, both being pursued by the space military and police. Adopting the entry name “Machu,” Amate begins piloting the GQuuuuuuX and dives into the battles.
The cast features Tomoyo Kurosawa as Amate, Yui Ishikawa as Nyan, and Shinba Tsuchiya as Shuji.
