The festival of electronic music and digital art, MUTEK.JP 2024, is set to take place over three days from November 22 (Friday) to November 24 (Sunday) at Spotify O-EAST and WOMB in Shibuya, Tokyo.
Now in its ninth year, the event will feature numerous showcases that combine music and technology. The opening day will feature a special live set by Berlin-based electronic composer Caterina Barbieri and visual artist Ruben Spini. Additionally, there will be an A/V live set titled “All Above,” marking the Japan debut of Italian composer and sound designer Grand River alongside visual artist Marco Ciceri.
On the second day, the extreme art project “VMO a.k.a Violent Magic Orchestra” will present a fusion of electronic music, black metal, visuals, smoke, and strobe lights. Furthermore, YUKO ARAKI, known for her experimental electronic music rooted in noise and industrial sounds, will collaborate with the prolific up-and-coming new media artist JACKSON kaki for a special performance.
The final day will feature an electro set by the new generation electro-acoustic talent Kara-Lis Coverdale, along with an audiovisual live performance by Hiroshi Watanabe, who continues to deliver his works worldwide from various labels. Also performing will be Tokyo-based producer Sapphire Slows, joining forces with Canadian visual artist Myriam Boucher. The opening performance will be by vibraphone and marimba player and composer Masayoshi Fujita, who recently released his new work Migratory in September.
The traditional all-night program MUTEK.JP × WOMB will kick off on the first day with a focus on techno. Tasha, known for her unique grooves inspired by Berlin/Detroit techno and UK bass, will make her first appearance in Japan, alongside A/V live performances by Tokyo-based producer/DJs RISA TANIGUCHI and H2KGRAPHICS. Additionally, media artist and techno producer Makoto Inoue, based in Berlin, will perform an A/V set.
The second day will see the debut of Palestinian artist Maher Daniel in Japan. Also, the highly respected Margaret Dygas will grace the stage, recognized by core clubbers in both techno and house scenes.
