MUTEK.JP 2023, a festival of electronic music and digital art, will be held at SpotifyO-EAST and WOMB in Shibuya, Tokyo, from Thursday, December 7 to Saturday, December 9.
The event, now in its eighth year, will feature a number of showcases combining music and technology. On the first day, goat leader Koshiro Hino’s solo project YPY and the 40-year-old taiko drum performance group Kodo will perform live together, and on the second day, the cutting edge of interactive audiovisuals, Fractal Fantasy’s Sinjin Hawke & The second day will feature the latest A/V live performance by Sinjin Hawke & Zora Jones, the leader of Fractal Fantasy, a cutting-edge interactive audio-visual company that uses motion capture to convert the movements of two people into sound and images. On the final day, Paris-based media artist NONOTAK will appear for the first time in five years to present the world premiere of his latest live performance in which light and music are synchronized.
The lineup also includes the first Japan live performance by dBridge, a leading figure in the UK drum & bass world, UK veteran DJ Jane Fitz, Shackleton, the pinnacle of polyrhythmic tribal music, Black Boboi, Food Festival a.k.a foodman, and more than 30 others from Japan and abroad. This is a program that brings together up-and-coming artists.
MUTEK” is a creative platform established in Montreal, Canada, that provides a venue for free and experimental expression. MUTEK supports the discovery and nurturing of talented individuals, and presents experimental and innovative audiovisual and live performances based on the philosophy of continuing to search for a world that interacts with music and technology, while keeping at the forefront of the musical mutations that have evolved through technology.
MUTEK.JP was established in 2016 as the only MUTEK Global country in Asia. As a platform to showcase local and international artists to the world, it creates opportunities to interact with various artists and creators.
Passport Early Bird (20,000 yen ) tickets, which allow admission to all performances at Spotify O-EAST and WOMB during “MUTEK.JP 2023,” will be on sale from Tuesday, October 17 through Saturday, November 8. Check the official website for an outline of each day’s performance and ticket details.
