Starting in February, the HOSONO HOUSE COVERS project has unveiled its fifth single: Sam Gendel’s rendition of “Koi wa Momoiro / My Love is Peach-Colored,” released on September 18.
This project celebrates the 50th anniversary of Haruomi Hosono’s landmark 1973 album, HOSONO HOUSE. The initiative features global artists reinterpreting the classic, with previous covers by Mac DeMarco, Yuma Abe, John Carroll Kirby (featuring Kiko Mizuhara and Yuka), and Cornelius.
Sam Gendel, an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known for his eclectic style and Japanese fanbase, contributes a carefully crafted English version of “Koi wa Momoiro.” He also designed the cover art for the single.
The album HOSONO HOUSE COVERS will be released on LP on November 6. The release features contributions from the five artists who have released singles, alongside Akiko Yano, mei ehara, and Kukuku (Ikuko Harada & Manami Kakudo). New additions to the album include TOWA TEI and South Korea’s SE SO NEON, with Rei Harakami’s cover of “Owari no Kisetsu” also included.
The domestic edition will offer 11 tracks on a single LP, while the US/EU edition will feature 13 tracks on a double LP, with additional contributions from Pearl & the Oysters and Jerry Paper. The cover art will be designed by Tomoo Gokita.
The domestic release, a collaboration between KAKUBARHYTHM and BAYON PRODUCTION, will be available in early November, while the US version will release in early November and the EU version will follow in mid to late November, via STONES THROW RECORDS.
