Daikanyama’s DEFOAMAT Festival Adds Minyo Crusaders and SIDE CORE

The second lineup of artists for “DEFOAMAT,” taking place on October 19 (Saturday) and 20 (Sunday) across four venues in Daikanyama, Tokyo, has been announced.

“DEFOAMAT” is an urban art and music festival themed around exploring new societal models within Asian cultural solidarity, under the concept of “alternative Asian life.” The festival will utilize four locations in Daikanyama: Daikanyama T-SITE, Daikanyama Forestgate, UNIT/SALOON, and Haretsuka Sora ni Mame Maite. It will feature music performances, art exhibitions, an outdoor market focusing on Asian culture, and talk sessions exploring alternative societal models. Over 15 artists from various Asian countries are set to participate.

The second wave of artists includes six groups from the music and art scenes. The music program will feature:

• Minyo Crusaders, a band blending Japanese folk music with Latin styles like cumbia for a contemporary revival.
• ASOUND, a four-member band known for their reggae-based sound and appearances at major festivals.
• DJ YESYES, a Korean DJ and organizer of the Asia Music Party, who introduces Asian music through his label HELICOPTER RECORDS.
• Hajime Oishi, a writer exploring dance music and festival culture from around the world.
• MOOLA, a vintage record collector and DJ interpreting Thai culture from a local and independent perspective.

For the art program, the collective SIDE CORE will participate, known for their work themed around “expanding expression in urban spaces” and currently holding their first major solo exhibition in Tokyo at the Watari Museum of Contemporary Art.

Music performances at “DEFOAMAT” will be held on October 19 (Saturday), with tickets available for general sale through e+ (eplus). Art exhibitions, talk events, and the market will be free to enter, with further details to be announced on the official website as they become available.
