The creative unit CCMS will host the exhibit and sale event, “CCMS experiment OBON”, from August 10 (Saturday) to August 18 (Sunday) at New Gallery in Jimbocho, Tokyo.
CCMS, a creative team formed by designer Shigeto Koyama, graphic designer Tsuyoshi Kusano, and art director Ai Nonaka, previously showcased their work at the “SHIGETO KOYAMA CCMS experiment OBAKE” exhibition in New York’s SoHo, where they redefined “animation” and “products” as contemporary “folk crafts.” This exhibition aimed to communicate their appeal and new possibilities to a wider audience while exploring new expression opportunities.
“CCMS experiment OBON” will be held as a temporary “night-only” exhibit, open daily from 6 PM to 11 PM. It will feature the display and sale of new CCMS products. Comments from CCMS regarding the event have also been released.
CCMS comment
During the past few years of staying at home, CCMS exclusively offered its products through an online store called “SHOP.”
Now that people are returning to the streets as the lockdowns end, we decided to turn “SHOP” into a temporary real-life store. This is the concept behind the temporary “exhibit” titled “CCMS experiment OBON.”
This pop-up is CCMS’s unique take on both a “store” and an “exhibit,” existing merely as a “point” in space.
As an experimental endeavor, the store will be open only at night for a brief nine-day period. We hope you’ll stop by after Comiket or work, and we look forward to welcoming you.

Additionally, during the exhibition period on August 11 (Sunday), 12 (Monday, public holiday), and 17 (Saturday), CCMS will host a limited 30-person talk event titled “GATHERING” featuring Koayama and Kusano, along with daily guest speakers. On August 11, animator Atsushi Nishikiori and Hiroshi Wakabayashi, the creative director of the 2019 film Promare for which Koayama did the character design, will appear as “Bokusa.com × CCMS.” On August 12, writer/editor Shotaro Miya will speak, and on August 17, Masahiko Minami, CEO of Studio BONES, known for series like Fullmetal Alchemist and My Hero Academia, will participate.
Tickets for the talk events are available through a lottery on LivePocket until August 1 (Thursday).
