Bokunou’s first large-scale solo exhibition “Bokunou Exhibition” will be held at PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO in Shibuya PARCO, Tokyo, from June 28 (Friday) to July 15 (Monday, national holiday).
Bokunou is known for its diverse roles as a comedian, performer, and artist. Instead of DJing to liven up events with music, he appears as an “SJ (Smell Jockey)” manipulating “smell.” He has creatively avoided boundaries, presenting a white T-shirt for a tomato sauce splattering game, turning a common occurrence into an innovative expression.
He is also a member of the Tokyo-based band Nature Danger Gang, and in 2024 began working as a TV writer. He has also participated in “Hiroyuki Ariyoshi’s Law Breaking TV,” a program irregularly broadcast on Fuji Television Network that searches for loopholes in television. In addition, his elusive and rapturous activities continue to gain support on the Internet, as evidenced by his “Social Window Open Window Denim,” released in March, which became a hot topic on Instagram and was picked up by foreign media outlets.
In addition to a large-scale new installation performance, the exhibition will also feature Bokunou’s archive of over 1,000 works. Bokunou’s first book of works, “Boku, Bokunou,” will be released in a volume of approximately 1,000 pages. The exhibits will consist of works and goods, as well as items that can neither be described as works nor goods.
The exhibition is curated by Chim↑Pom from Smappa!Group, an artist collective that opened “KANE-ZANMAI,” a store project to develop and sell experimental “products” at Shibuya PARCO. The exhibition explores the boundary between products and artworks, and explores the whole picture of Boku Brain, which is becoming a phenomenon like an influencer, by using “Kinzanmai” as a platform for exhibitions, books, and shops.
