Solo Shows Announced for PUNKSPRING 2024 Headliners SUM 41, NOFX, ZEBRAHEAD, THE DAMNED, and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES
The performers set to headline PUNKSPRING 2024 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba on March 16-17, including SUM 41, NOFX, ZEBRAHEAD, THE DAMNED, and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, have confirmed additional solo shows.
PUNKSPRING, known for curating punk-focused indoor festivals under the creative management of the team behind SUMMER SONIC, has become a staple spring event since its inception in 2006. Hosting both international acts like THE OFFSPRING and RANCID and domestic artists like Pay money To my Pain and FACT, the festival returned in 2023 after a four-year hiatus. Descendents, a venerable American punk band formed in 1977, marked their first-ever Japan appearance before at PUNKSPRING. Following its revival, PUNKSPRING 2024 features SUM 41, ZEBRAHEAD, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, NECK DEEP, NOFX, THE DAMNED, and THE VANDALS.
The solo shows by SUM 41, NOFX, ZEBRAHEAD, THE DAMNED, and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES have been announced, with SUM 41 touring six locations in Hokkaido, Kanagawa, Aichi, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, and Osaka, accompanied by support act NECK DEEP. NOFX will tour Aichi, Osaka, and Kanagawa and host additional nationwide performances around ‘PUNKSPRING.’ This marks the final Japan tour for both SUM 41, who have already announced their disbandment, and NOFX, hinting at a potential dissolution.
SUM 41, formed near Toronto, Canada, is a Grammy-nominated quintet with a history of numerous Japan tours. One of their representative songs, “The Hell Song,” was used as the opening theme for the “Otokogijanken” segment on the Fuji TV variety show “Tunnels no Minasan no Okage Deshita,” which aired until 2018.
NOFX, a four-member band from Los Angeles, USA, formed in 1983 and is renowned as a pioneering force in melodic hardcore. Fat Mike, the vocalist/bassist, is not only a member of the band ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES but also the founder of the American punk label Fat Wreck Chords, responsible for the overseas releases of Hi-STANDARD. The band is known for releasing numerous punk-infused cover songs.
SUM 41, ZEBRAHEAD, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, and NECK DEEP will perform on the first day of this two-day “PUNKSPRING,” while NOFX, THE DAMNED, and THE VANDALS will perform on the second day. Additional acts will be announced later.
