Joe Hisaishi’s latest album, “A Symphonic Celebration – Music from the Studio Ghibli films of Hayao Miyazaki,” debuted at #1 on Billboard’s “Classical Albums” and “Classical Crossover Albums” charts. The album has reached No. 1 on Billboard’s “Classical Albums” and “Classical Crossover Albums” charts in the United States. This is the first time for Miyazaki to achieve such a feat.
The album is composed of songs he has provided for Hayao Miyazaki’s films. This is the second consecutive week that a Japanese artist has reached No. 1 on these two charts, following Ryuichi Sakamoto’s “12”. It also reached No. 1 on the French “Classique Chart” and No. 2 on the British “Specialist Classical Chart.
In addition, the “Ghibli Screen Concert” at London’s Wembley Arena, which had been postponed due to the Corona disaster, will be held over two days starting Thursday, September 21. Joe Hisaishi also composed the music for Hayao Miyazaki’s new film “How Do You Live” which was released on July 14 (Fri.).
