Sorry Youth

This power trio was formed by guitarist Weni, bassist Giang Giang, and drummer Chung-Han. Taiwanese lyrics are an important base of their songwriting and a characteristic of the Beat Xie boys. And their song arrangements strongly capture the atmosphere of their live performances. They are one of the few indie bands in Taiwan to write lyrics entirely in Taiwanese. The Beat Xie Boys are currently an important band as a flagship of the Taiwanese indie scene. Their performances are always sold out, and they frequently perform at national and international music festivals such as “SUMMER SONIC” (Japan), “Megaport Festival” (Taiwan), “shima fes SETOUCHI” (Japan), “Mori, Michi, Ichiba” (Japan), and “SXSW” (USA). He has also toured in Japan, Korea, Canada, Hong Kong, and many other countries. In 2020, he is planning to organize his own “Shan Meng Kai Oath” music festival to further explore the possibilities of the collision of music culture and art in Taiwan.

Founder of Roro / Playwright / Director. Born on October 29 in Miyagi Prefecture. In 2009, while studying in the Playwriting Course of the Department of Theater at Nihon University’s College of Art, his debut work, *About Family and Many Other Things*, became the first play in history to be selected for the “Pen in Mind Playwriting Contest” held by Oji Small Theater. That same year, he founded Roro and has since written and directed all of the company’s productions. He weaves together his pure feelings toward the diverse cultures he has absorbed, much like a patchwork, to turn moments of various “encounters” into stories. In 2015, he launched the “Itsutaka Series,” dedicated to high school students. He stages 60-minute serialized ensemble plays adhering to the rules of high school theater, and aims to revitalize high school theater by making the scripts available for free and offering free admission and free use of the scripts to high school students and younger. In addition, he is actively engaged in a wide range of activities beyond the confines of theater, including writing screenplays and lyrics, and leading workshops. In 2016, his play *Handsome Daigo* was nominated as a finalist for the 60th Kishida Kunio Playwriting Award. In 2019, he won the Screenplay Award at the 16th Confidence Award Drama Awards for his work on the NHK evening drama *Fujoshi, Ukkari Gay ni Kokuru.*
