“Roots of Kawaii: Rune Naito Special Exhibition Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of Her Debut” will be held at Kobe Fashion Museum, Hyogo, from April 8.
Naito Rune made her debut in 1953, and from 1959 she was in charge of covers and illustrations for the magazine “Junior Soreiyu.” Since the 1960s, she has been active in a wide range of fields, from designing supplements and goods for girls’ and school yearbook magazines to interior design proposals, doll making, and painting.
This exhibition, commemorating the 70th anniversary of her debut, introduces Rune Naito’s works by job. The exhibition will feature approximately 570 works, the largest number ever, including original paintings, including those exhibited for the first time, magazines and journals of the time, costumes reproducing “Rune Girl” works, and fancy goods that were popular in the Showa period.
