Disney Animation Studios’ latest film, ‘Zootopia 2,’ is set to be released in Japan in the winter of 2025. To celebrate the announcement, an exclusive Japanese visual has also been unveiled.
The original ‘Zootopia,’ released in 2016, told the story of Judy, a determined rabbit rookie police officer, and Nick, a sarcastic fox con artist, who team up to solve a mystery in the animal paradise of Zootopia. The film won both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe, and became the first Disney animated feature since ‘Frozen’ to gross over $1 billion worldwide. It also earned over 7.6 billion yen at the Japanese box office.
The sequel, ‘Zootopia 2,’ will be directed by Jared Bush, who co-directed and co-wrote the first film, as well as wrote the script for Moana 2, and by Byron Howard, who directed the original Zootopia and Tangled. The two directors are now joining forces once again.
The newly released Japanese visual was created to commemorate the Year of the Snake in 2025, marking the “Zootopia Year.” It features Nick in conspicuous clothing, unlike a typical detective, and Judy, ever the model student, in a new uniform. The two are seen embarking on an undercover investigation to uncover new mysteries, with a new character, a snake named “Gary,” introduced as a wanted criminal. Gary, who is venomous but cheerful and chatty, will play a crucial role in leading Judy and Nick to uncover hidden secrets in Zootopia.
