The highly anticipated film ‘Paddington in Peru,’ is set to premiere in Japan on Friday, May 9. Alongside the announcement, a teaser trailer and main promotional image have been unveiled.
Following the success of ‘Paddington’ (2016) and ‘Paddington 2’ (2018), the latest installment continues the beloved cinematic adaptation of the Paddington children’s book series, which has sold over 35 million copies worldwide and been translated into 40 languages. The previous two films charmed audiences globally with Paddington’s lovable personality and unique antics, amassing approximately ¥90 billion in worldwide box office revenue.
In this new adventure, the story takes place in Paddington’s birthplace, Peru. Paddington embarks on a family trip with the Brown family to visit Aunt Lucy, who resides at an “Old Bear’s Home.” However, upon their arrival, Aunt Lucy is nowhere to be found, leaving behind only her glasses and a bracelet. Using a map she left behind, Paddington and the Browns venture deep into the Peruvian jungle in search of the fabled City of Gold, uncovering Paddington’s roots along the way in a heartwarming tale of discovery and adventure.
Paddington is once again voiced by Ben Whishaw, renowned for his role in the 007 series. Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey) reprises his role as Mr. Brown, and Madeleine Harris returns as Judy, the Browns’ daughter. Emily Mortimer (‘Mary Poppins Returns,’ ‘Shutter Island’) takes on the role of Mrs. Brown. The film is directed by Dougal Wilson, marking his debut in the series, while Paul King, known for Paddington and Wonka, contributes to the screenplay.
The teaser trailer opens with Paddington’s humorous attempts to take a passport photo at London’s Paddington Station, his namesake. The latter half showcases thrilling scenes of Paddington on boats, planes, and exploring ancient ruins in Peru, promising an epic adventure filled with charm and excitement.
