Record-Breaking Independent Horror ‘Longlegs’ Set for Japan Release in March

The highly anticipated horror film ‘Longlegs’ is set to premiere in Japan on Friday, March 14. To mark the announcement, a teaser trailer and visual have been released, offering a chilling glimpse into the movie’s dark and suspenseful world.

As of November, ‘Longlegs’ had already made waves in the U.S., achieving the highest opening weekend gross for an independent horror film released in 2024. Furthermore, it has become the top-grossing independent horror film in the past decade, solidifying its status as a major success.

The film follows rookie FBI agent Lee Harker, who is tasked with investigating a series of unsolved family murders. In all ten cases, the father killed his family before taking his own life, leaving behind a cryptic letter signed ‘Longlegs’ at each crime scene. As Lee delves deeper, she begins piecing together the sinister truth behind the chilling murders.

Directed by Osgood Perkins, known for his upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s The Monkey, ‘Longlegs’ boasts a standout cast. Maika Monroe, celebrated for her iconic role in It Follows, stars as Lee, while Nicolas Cage takes on the terrifying role of the titular serial killer ‘Longlegs.’ Cage has stated that this will be his first and last time portraying such a grim and macabre character.

The newly released teaser trailer heightens the anticipation, featuring scenes of Agent Lee in moments of intense fear. The footage includes unsettling imagery, such as a shadowy figure hiding their face and a shattered doll’s head, building an atmosphere of foreboding. The trailer ends on a gripping note, showing Lee screaming as she inches closer to unraveling the horrifying mystery.

Alongside the announcement, two teaser visuals have been revealed. One depicts a young girl standing in front of a snow-covered house, while the other shows a family, their upper bodies covered by white cloth, at the scene of an unsolved murder. Each visual is accompanied by unsettling messages: “You’re not afraid of the dark, are you?” and “We’ve finally met.”
