The exhibition Kenjiro Okazaki will be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (MOT) in Kiyosumi Shirakawa from April 29 (Tuesday, public holiday) to July 21 (Monday, public holiday), 2025.
Born in Tokyo in 1955, Kenjiro Okazaki is a leading Japanese sculptor and multidisciplinary artist whose work spans architecture, environmental planning, picture books, and robotics. He is also an influential critic across cultural fields. Since being invited to the 1982 Paris Biennale, Okazaki has participated in numerous international exhibitions. His notable projects include the Haizuka Earthwork Project, the design of Nakatsukuni Park in Shobara, Hiroshima, and directing the Japan Pavilion at the 8th Venice Biennale of Architecture. He has also collaborated with contemporary dancer Trisha Brown. In 2022, he won the 76th Mainichi Publishing Culture Award in the Culture and Arts category for his book The Eden of Senses (Kenjiro Okazaki Selected Criticism, Vol. 1).
This marks his first large-scale exhibition in Tokyo and will feature Okazaki’s works created after 2021, a pivotal turning point in his career, along with a comprehensive selection of his past masterpieces. The exhibition aims to explore the possibilities and power of “form” as a method of understanding the world.
