The exhibition “Ho Tzu Nyen: A for Agents” will be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo from April 6 (Sat) to July 7 (Sun).
Ho Tzu Nyen, based in Singapore, has been creating films, video installations, and performances that explore Southeast Asian historical events, ideas, individual and collective subjectivity, and cultural identity from a unique perspective. In Japan, he has presented new works at the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media, 2021, and the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art, among others.
The exhibition “Ho Tzu Nyen: A for Agents” introduces Ho’s work from his earliest days to his latest work, which is being shown in Japan for the first time. Through video installations such as “Utama: All the Names in History Are Me,” his 2003 debut film directed and written by Ho, and “Voice of Void: Voices of Emptiness,” a collaboration with the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media, the exhibition will present Ho’s activities to date, as well as his newest works, which will be on view for the first time in Japan. The exhibition will trace Ho’s past activities through video installations such as “Utama – All the Names that Appear in History are Me. His latest work, “T of Time,” is a new development of Ho’s work, which questions time itself and people’s experience of time through the multifaceted nature of time.
