Ryoji Ikeda will launch his first-ever Japan tour, ultratronics Japan Tour, starting December 23 (Monday).
Known for blending electronic music with immersive art experiences, Ikeda is based in Paris and Kyoto. His albums, such as +/- (1996) and supercodex (2013), have expanded the possibilities of minimal electronic music. In 2018, he founded his own label, codex | edition, and in December 2022, he released ultratronics through both codex | edition and NOTON (Germany). The ultratronics live set, which will be featured on this tour, was first performed in 2022 at Tokyo’s WWW X and has since been showcased at major festivals like Sónar in Spain, Japan’s FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL, and Pitchfork Music Festival London in the UK.
The tour kicks off in Kanagawa on December 23, with stops in five cities across Japan. Performers include VMO a.k.a Violent Magic Orchestra at KT Zepp Yokohama, ∈Y∋ at Zepp Fukuoka, goat at Zepp Namba, Hakushi Hasegawa at Zepp Nagoya, and Carsten Nicolai (Alva Noto) at Zepp Sapporo.
