The Japanese drag show OPULENCE will take place at Zepp Shinjuku in Tokyo on October 25 (Friday) and at Zepp Namba in Osaka on October 27 (Sunday).
OPULENCE is a celebration featuring drag queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race, hosted by RuPaul, known as the “Godmother of American Drag.” The event showcases extravagant performances by these queens as well as meet-and-greet opportunities with them. Since its debut in January 2023, the show has been held four times and has featured world-renowned queens such as Kylie Sonique Love, Trinity The Tuck, and Alaska.
RuPaul’s Drag Race is a competitive reality show hosted by RuPaul, where drag queens compete in various challenges for the title of “America’s Next Drag Superstar” and a grand prize of $100,000. The show features extravagant and unique costumes, dramatic personal stories of the queens, and weekly appearances by high-profile guest stars.
For the fifth edition of the event, the lineup will feature Jaida Essence Hall, hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Nymphia Wind, an Asian queen of Taiwanese roots and currently one of the most talked-about queens in the region; and Precious Paula Nicole, a prominent figure in the drag scene of the Philippines.
From Japan, the lineup includes popular queens known for their high entertainment value, such as Vera Strondh, Sera Tonin, and Sasha B Savannah.
This will be the first time the event is held in Osaka, and it will be linked with various LGBTQ+ events in the area, including the Asia debut of the “IGLTA Global Convention” (The International LGBTQ+ Travel Association Global Convention), which is being hosted by the Osaka Tourism Bureau, and the “Rainbow Festa!” LGBTQ+ festival taking place at Ogimachi Park in Kita Ward, Osaka on October 26th (Saturday) and 27th (Sunday).
Tickets are available for general sale through various ticket agencies starting from August 21 (Wednesday).
