Keiichi Sokabe has released his new single “Karimen (Provisional License)” on August 14 (Wednesday).
This release coincides with the launch of “HAZARD OF DUB,” a dub remix version of Sokabe’s 2023 album “Hazard of Love,” which will also be released on August 14 (Wednesday).
The single is a new mix of a track from “Hazard of Love.” The “Karimen DUB” version offers a fresh, floating, and intoxicating reimagining of the original pop and funky track. Both versions will have their music videos released simultaneously. The cover artwork for the single is illustrated by the manga artist Radio Wada, known for his surrealistic style, adding to the distinctive visual world of the release, which complements the artwork of “HAZARD OF DUB” by Keiichi Tanami.
Sokabe has also provided comments about the single, discussing the background and production details.
After turning 40 and getting my driver’s license, attending driving school was incredibly enjoyable. It was a summer of returning to studying after a long time, surrounded mostly by younger people, and every day felt like the sunlight was overwhelmingly bright.
However, failing the provisional license test once was a huge shock, and it might have been a long time since I experienced such a setback.
Successfully obtaining the license has (probably) significantly changed my life, but on the other hand, a life without a license or a life where I reconsidered and ended up obtaining a first-class ship license could have been possible. This song was created while imagining such a multiverse-filled life.
Listening to the dub mix created by Ikegami-kun from the band “Preordained Lovers,” I am reminded of the sparkling anticipation of that summer. And gazing at the cover art by Radio Wada, I find myself reflecting on the strange worldlines of someone somewhere, thinking, “Ah, this person has been through various things and now finds themselves in this situation…”
