The timetable for SUMMER SONIC 2024 and SONICMANIA have been announced.
SUMMER SONIC 2024 will be held simultaneously with Tokyo performances at Chiba’s ZOZO Marine Stadium & Makuhari Messe on August 17th (Saturday) and 18th (Sunday), and Osaka performances at Expo Commemoration Park in Suita, Osaka. SonicMania will kick off as a pre-festival on August 16th (Friday) with an all-night event at Makuhari Messe. Alongside the timetable release, additional performers for each event have also been announced.
For SonicMania, newly announced performers include SARUKANI, a beatbox crew/music producer group who won the crew division at the world’s largest beatbox competition, Grand Beatbox Battle 2023, and Chameleon Lime Whoopie Pie, the solo unit by Chi-, who has gained global attention with consecutive appearances at the SXSW festival in Texas, USA.
For SUMMER SONIC, additional performers include The BONEZ, a four-member rock band who celebrated their 10th anniversary last year and held their largest solo live at Makuhari Messe in April 2023, slated for the “PACIFIC STAGE” on August 17th (Saturday) in Tokyo. In Osaka, on August 17th (Saturday), the opening act will feature Conton Candy, a Tokyo-based three-piece rock band that gained viral popularity with “Fuzzy Navel” released in April 2023, and on August 18th (Sunday), tonun, a singer-songwriter who debuted majorly in 2023 and was also selected for Spotify’s RADAR: Early Noise in 2022.
Additionally, MIDNIGHT SONIC on August 17th (Saturday) in Tokyo, curated entirely by Gen Hoshino under the title ‘”so sad so happy midnight” Curated by Gen Hoshino’, will feature performances by Robert Glasper with special guest YEBBA, Tucker, Terrace Martin, and Answer to Remember, led by drummer Shun Ishiwaka. The lineup has been announced in one fell swoop.
Gen Hoshino, who curated the stage, will also perform as a DJ alongside DJ JIN, known for his work with the hip-hop group RHYMESTER, nagaokaryosuke of the band Petrolz, and in a rare DJ style under the alias Gen Hoshino. The timetable will be announced at a later date. Gen Hoshino’s own live performance will take place at the “MARINE STAGE” on August 17th (Saturday) in Tokyo at 17:40.
Tickets for SUMMER SONIC Osaka performance are sold out. Additional lottery sales for 1-day tickets and platinum tickets for the Tokyo performance have been decided, with member applications accepted from July 13th (Saturday) at 12:00 to July 16th (Tuesday) at 23:59, and general sales from July 17th (Wednesday) at 12:00 to July 23rd (Tuesday) at 23:59. MIDNIGHT SONIC will be accessible with all SUMMER SONIC Tokyo entrance tickets, and standalone tickets for MIDNIGHT SONIC will also be available from July 13th (Saturday) at 10:00.
