An archive exhibition “LIQUID START – Shinjuku LIQUIDROOM SINCE 1994-,” which unravels the history of the Shinjuku era of the live music club LIQUIDROOM, will be held from July 13 (Sat) to 21 (Sun) at Gallery KATA in LIQUIDROOM in Ebisu, Tokyo. The exhibition will be held at Gallery KATA in LIQUIDROOM, Ebisu, Tokyo, from July 13 (Sat.) to 21 (Sun.).
LIQUIDROOM opened in Kabukicho, Shinjuku in July 1994 and closed in January 2004. It moved to its current location in Ebisu in July of the same year, and many anniversary performances are scheduled for 2024, the 20th anniversary of its opening in Ebisu.
The exhibition will not only look back on the 10 years of the Shinjuku era, but also reaffirm the trends of the Western and Japanese live music and club scene from the late 1990s to the early 2000s, with the aim of exploring how the music scene of that time was connected to the music and culture of later generations.
At the venue, the monthly schedule of Shinjuku LIQUIDROOM distributed at the time, flyers of performances over the past 10 years, and vintage band T-shirts of the artists will be on display. In addition, comments from Keigo Oyamada, Kinichi Mogi, Mummy-D, Naozumi Masuko, Buffalo Daughter, Ken Ishii, Fumiya Tanaka, Naohiro Ukawa, and others who share their memories of Shinjuku LIQUIDROOM will be displayed along with flyers of the performances from that time.
