Homecomings’ new song “Moon Shaped” has been chosen as the theme song for the movie “Mikazuki to Neko,” which will be released on May 24th (Friday).
The film is a story of three men and a woman and a cat who met after the Kumamoto earthquake, and who are neither lovers nor family members. Yumi Adachi plays Lumin, a 40-something single woman working at a bookstore; Kana Kurashina plays Kanoko, a 30-something psychiatrist; and Keisuke Watanabe plays Jin, a 20-something apparel store worker. Based on the comic of the same title by Uozumiami, published by Shueisha Margaret Comics, the film won the grand prize at the 1st anan Cat Manga Award by anan magazine in 2019.
It has been five years since Homecomings sang the theme song for the movie “Cakes” in “Ai ga Nanda. Along with the release of the information, comments from guitarist Yuki Fukutomi and Naho Uemura, who writes and directs the film, were also announced.
After reading the original work and watching the movie, the essence of this story resonates with what is important to us. It mirrors the significance we place on kindness, forgiveness, and acknowledging the diversity of forms that existence takes. I encapsulated these cherished values in the song titled “Moon Shaped.
Yuuki Fukutomi (Gt) comment
Through Homecomings’ music, I discovered a song that is so dear I want to listen to it repeatedly. It brings me great joy that this song has become the theme for our collaborative project. While reading the original work and writing the script, Homecomings’ music constantly flowed in my mind. I invite you to listen to the theme song, “Moon Shaped,” in theaters along with the movie “Mikazuki to Neko,” hoping it guides and watches over the film.
Writer/Director Naho Kamimura comment
The release date of the song and other details will be announced later.
The new artist photo of Homecomings has also been released following the graduation of Narumi Ishida (Dr./Cho) on February 10 (Sat.).
