“Stop Making Sense” 4K Trailer Released & “David Byrne’s American Utopia” is Set to Re-Runs

A global preview trailer for the movie “Stop Making Sense,” scheduled for a nationwide release on Friday, February 2, has been unveiled.

Helmed by Jonathan Demme, the director behind “Silence of the Lambs,” the movie captures the electrifying live performance of the Talking Heads at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood in December 1983. Although the film made its debut in Japan in 1985 and has seen multiple re-screenings, A24 is bringing it back in a 4K restored version, utilizing negatives that have been in storage since 1992. The sound has undergone a complete remastering process, overseen by Jerry Harrison himself.

To celebrate the release of “Stop Making Sense 4K Restoration,” “American Utopia,” Spike Lee’s adaptation of David Byrne’s Broadway show, will be screened again at 7 theaters in 5 cities (Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Sapporo, Fukuoka) for one week only starting January 26 (Friday). The film will be released in Japan in May 2021.

The film, which was released in Japan in May 2021 and recorded box-office revenues of over 100 million yen, an unprecedented feat for a music documentary film, had its domestic screening rights expire in 2023, but the film’s re-screening has been realized after negotiations for the extension of the rights.
