The stage play “Shashin” by Gekidan Hutsuu will be performed at Cafe MURIWUI in Soshigaya, Tokyo, from October 19 (Thu) to 22 (Sun).
Gekidan Hutsuu is a group led by writer/director/actor Mai Ishiguro. The company takes as its subject matter the daily lives of family members, siblings, and friends, and is characterized by the tension created by the pauses and physicality of its unique conversations.
The play depicts the modest life of an adult-only family living in the countryside, centering on a couple who have bought a house in the countryside and the wife’s single brother who lives in the neighboring town, all in the Ibaraki dialect. It is written and directed by Mai Ishiguro. The cast includes Asuka Goto, Tsuyoshi Kondo, and Ryo Mochimatsu.
【Mai Ishiguro’s comment】
In recent years, we have been performing at large theaters such as Oji Theater and Mitaka City Arts Center Star Hall, but this time we will be performing at Cafe MURIWUI in Soshigaya, at a distance “almost within reach of the stage” for the first time since the first performance of “Byositsu”, which marked the turning point of the theater company.
For my work, which has depicted the daily life of a small family and shed light on the details, this sense of distance, as if you are one with the audience, is the starting point of the expression activities of the theater company Normal. Now that my work has progressed along with Ishiguro, I am very much looking forward to seeing “Shashin”, which is both the original scenery and the latest work of the Normal Theater Company, in the wonderful space of Cafe MURIWUI. We hope you will be able to come and see it.
