The opening exhibition series “Metabolism of Tradition” will be held at the new facility SHUTL, which will open next to the Togeki Building in Higashi-Ginza, Tokyo, for three phases starting on Friday, October 13.
The first phase, “Metabolism of Tradition – Words and Letters” scheduled to run through November 5 (Sun.), focuses on the contours and changes of “words” and “letters,” with three groups, Tahi Saihate + Shun Sasaki, Masahide Matsuda, and Ryu Mieno, presenting works responding to the theme. The second phase, “Metabolism of Tradition – Transformation from Style” will be held from mid-December to late January 2024, and the third phase, “Metabolism of Tradition – Looking” from late February to mid-March 2024, details to be announced at a later date.
SHUTL is a facility in which Shochiku Co., Ltd. acquired and repurposed two capsules from the Nakagin Capsule Tower, a capsule-shaped housing complex in Ginza. Based on the concept of “Authenticity of the Future,” SHUTL will exhibit and sell art and craft works, plan and execute events such as video screenings, and accommodate space rentals. The facility will be open to the public on October 7 (Sat.) and October 8 (Sun.), the next day of the opening.
