The special website for Tokyo Festival 2023 which will be held from September 1 (Fri.) to October 29 (Sun.) in the Ikebukuro area of Toshima Ward, Tokyo, has been unveiled, along with a key visual.
Tokyo Festival 2023 is a comprehensive arts festival to be held under the slogan, “Downside Up: A positive Spin on the World”. A total of 19 programs are lined up, including the open-air play SPAC-Shizuoka Performing Arts Center’s “Mahabharata – Nalacharitam ” and “L’ÎLE D’OR Kanemu-Jima” by the Théâtre du Soleil. The key visual art direction is by the director of the project.
Masashi Murakami (emuni) was in charge of art direction for the key visuals. Murakami describes the key visuals as follows: “Inspired by Director Miyagi’s concept word, ‘How to be cheerful by reversing the world,’ all the letters are reversed up and down (or left and right), and the entire screen is filled with brightly colored surfaces with a light touch drawn by human hands. It is a visual. The trajectory of the colors is superimposed on the movements of the performers on stage. The colors of touch, centering on red, which evokes a sense of power, and including multiple hues, such as cold colors, are intended to express the diversity of the Tokyo Performing Arts Festival, where a variety of performances, from contemporary to classical, are held both domestically and internationally.I am very pleased with the quality of the work.
Tickets for all but a few works will go on sale at 10:00 a.m. on August 5 (Sat). For details, check the special website.
