Hate to Cheek’s stage play “Kuraitokorokara kuru Bakemono wa Akarukute Mienai” will be performed at Atelier Shunpusha in Kotakemukaihara, Tokyo, from August 18 (Fri.) to 27 (Sun.).
Hate to Cheek is a theater unit founded in Berlin in 2016 by its leader Kayo Masumi, whose play “Gaiaku” was selected as a finalist for the 2019 Hokkaido Drama Award, and was invited to participate in Shibuya Parco’s culture festival “P.O.N.D.” in 2020. The play is said to caricature serious social issues in an outlandish setting, and is created with anger toward unreasonable discrimination and a little hope for the future.
This sixth performance is Based on a light conversational drama, depicts a religious group and the people surrounding it, focusing on the imbalance of gender roles in the religious system, misogyny (hatred of women), and misandry (hatred of men).
It is written and directed by Kayo Masumi. The cast includes Tetsutaro Ueno, Nahoko Kawasumi, Mizuki Kawamura, Mado Kannami, Hideyuki Sato, Ayano Suzuki, Chie Hayashi, and Natsu Fukui.
