The film is set in Paris in 1981. Elisabeth, who has left her husband to raise her children alone, takes a new job at a late-night radio station, where she meets a runaway girl named Talulah and invites her to live with her. In the course of their lives, Elisabeth and the other children begin to reevaluate their own lives.
Charlotte Gainsbourg plays the lead role of Elisabeth, and Emmanuelle Beart plays Vanda, a late-night radio personality.
