Horsegirl to Embark on Their First Japan Tour This September

Horsegirl will perform in Japan for the first time in Tokyo and Osaka in September.

The Chicago-based three-piece band Horsegirl signed with Matador Records—home to artists like Yo La Tengo—after releasing “Ballroom Dance Scene” in 2020. In 2022, they released their debut album Versions of Modern Performance, recorded at Steve Albini’s studio, Electrical Audio, with John Agnello—who has worked with Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth—serving as co-producer.

The Tokyo show will take place at LIQUIDROOM in Ebisu on Wednesday, September 17, while the Osaka show will be held at BANANA HALL in Umeda on Thursday, September 18. Tickets will be available through a limited presale by the event organizer starting at 12:00 PM on Friday, February 14, on a first-come, first-served basis. Additionally, the earliest ticket lottery will be conducted via e-plus from 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 15, to Wednesday, February 19.

Horsegirl will also release their latest album, Phonetics On and On, on Friday, February 14. Produced by Cate Le Bon—known for her work with Wilco and Deerhunter—the album was recorded at The Loft in Chicago, the band’s home base. It features new instruments such as violin, synthesizer, and gamelan, showcasing a fresh musical direction.
