A film ‘We Live in Time,’ directed by John Crowley of ‘Brooklyn‘ (an Academy Award Best Picture nominee), is set to be released in Japan on June 6. Along with this announcement, the official trailer and poster have also been unveiled.
Blending a classic love story with innovative storytelling, the film has garnered attention, especially after A24, known for its bold and experimental productions, acquired its North American distribution rights.
The story follows Almut, a free-spirited, rising-star chef, and Tobias, a cautious man reeling from a painful divorce. Though complete opposites, fate brings them together, and they fall in love. As they navigate life’s challenges, they start a family, welcoming a daughter and deepening their bond. However, their happiness is shaken when Almut learns she has only a short time left to live—leading her to make a life-changing decision that shocks Tobias.
Florence Pugh, known for ‘Little Women,’ ‘Oppenheimer,’ and ‘Dune: Part Two,’ plays Almut, while Andrew Garfield, who rose to fame with Crowley’s Boy A and later starred in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man,’ takes on the role of Tobias.
The trailer opens with their fateful meeting—Tobias being hit by a car driven by Almut—before showcasing their growing romance, intimate moments, and the devastating moment Almut receives her diagnosis. The narrative unfolds in a shuffled timeline, capturing the fleeting beauty of their shared time. Meanwhile, the poster visual features the two smiling at each other while swaying on a merry-go-round, illuminated by glowing lights in the background, encapsulating the warmth and poignancy of their story.
