A music event to celebrate the opening of the newly established Wasa Hoshiya in Suo-Oshima, Yamaguchi, will take place on Sunday, March 16.
Wasa Hoshiya is a wooden theater building constructed shortly after World War II, which was acquired by a project unit called YORIMACHI BAZAAR, led by Myochin Nakamura (Chin Nakamura), former guitarist of GINNAN BOYZ, who now works as both a farmer and a monk in Suo-Oshima. The venue, which has long been a hub for local interaction and cultural activities, was slated for demolition but was preserved and renovated. The venue will now reopen with a new name and start its activities in March.
The event will feature Up Around The Sun w/ Bosco from Texas, USA. The unit consists of Tim Kerr, a guitarist known for his work with the punk-funk fusion band Big Boys and various other bands, along with banjo player Jerry Hagins, and fiddle (violin) player Bosco. They will be performing as part of their Japan tour in March. The lineup also includes live performances by Kazumi Nikaido with Midori Kurose and Vanishing Men, making it a night of performances by three exciting acts.
Up Around The Sun previously performed in Suo-Oshima during their 2023 Japan tour, organized by YORIMACHI BAZAAR, with Vanishing Men also taking part. Kazumi Nikaido had also performed at YORIMACHI BAZAAR’s first Suo-Oshima live show in 2014, making this a reunion with familiar artists for a memorable evening.
