Ginza Sony Park will officially open its doors in Tokyo’s Ginza district on Sunday, January 26.
Built under the concept of a “public space open to the city,” the facility marks the final phase of the redevelopment project that replaced the Sony Building, beloved for over 50 years since its construction in 1966. After its completion in August 2024, parts of the building were temporarily opened during the construction period to host special programs like ART IN THE PARK (Under Construction).
The new facility, standing approximately 33.9 meters tall—about half the height of a typical Ginza building—aims to create open spaces and a refreshing urban landscape. It inherits architectural elements from the original Sony Building, such as its ethos of being “open to the city,” the “junction architecture” concept that organically links urban functions and the building itself, and the “vertical promenade” formed by its petal-like skip floors that connect ground-level spaces seamlessly.
Spanning five above-ground floors and four basement levels, the facility is notable for not having permanent retail spaces. Instead, each floor hosts activities that change over time. For instance, the third basement level will feature a dining-focused area with a casual restaurant that reimagines Western cuisine and explores new ways to enjoy food. Open spaces such as the ground-floor atrium are designed as places where visitors can freely stroll and relax.
Coinciding with the grand opening, Ginza Sony Park will launch Sony Park Exhibition 2025, themed around Sony Group’s six business sectors. The program, curated in collaboration with six artists selected by Sony Music Group, will feature interactive events. Part 1, running from January 26 to March 30, will showcase Vaundy, YOASOBI, and Hitsujibungaku. Part 2, scheduled for April 20 to June 22, will include BABYMONSTER, Creepy Nuts, and Kensuke Ushio, blending their artistry with Sony’s cutting-edge technology.
