Architect Tadao Ando’s solo exhibition, Tadao Ando Exhibition | Youth, will be held at the “VS.” venue in Umedikita Park, Grand Green Osaka, starting from March 20 (Wednesday).
Following the successful Tadao Ando Exhibition | Challenge, which attracted 300,000 visitors at the National Art Center in Tokyo in 2017, this large-scale exhibition marks Ando’s first solo exhibition in Osaka in 16 years, his home city. The exhibition provides a comprehensive overview of Ando’s journey since he began his architectural design work in 1969. The venue will feature a 15-meter-high 3D video space, a full-scale reproduction of his early representative work, Church of the Light, and an installation reflecting on 37 years of his work in Naoshima. Visitors will be able to experience Ando’s path as a self-taught architect who introduced innovative architectural works to the world, as well as his challenges, current projects, and future vision.
The venue, VS., is part of the Grand Green Osaka redevelopment project located to the north of Osaka Station. It opened as a “new cultural apparatus” in September 2024, and its design was overseen by Ando himself, with much of the facility built underground, showcasing a distinctive structure.
