The ‘Doraemon’ movie series is marking its 45th anniversary with the Doraemon Film Festival 2025, set to take place at Jimbocho Theater in Tokyo from Saturday, February 1, 2025.
This special event will showcase all 43 past Doraemon films over 34 consecutive days, leading up to the premiere of the latest installment, ‘Doraemon: Nobita’s Art World Adventure,’ on Friday, March 7, 2025. Fans can enjoy a nostalgic experience, as films released before 2010 will be screened in their original 35mm format. Additionally, short films based on Fujiko F. Fujio’s original works that were screened alongside earlier movies will also be featured. Details about these special screenings will be announced soon.
The ‘Doraemon’ movie series debuted in March 1980 with ‘Nobita’s Dinosaur,’ becoming a staple of Japanese cinema. As part of the 45th-anniversary celebrations, a nationwide “Doraemon Film Festival” will run at 93 theaters from January 17 to February 6, 2025. Six films, chosen by fan votes, will be screened during this event.
The Doraemon manga, which first appeared in January 1970 in magazines such as Yoiko and Yochien, is also celebrating its 55th anniversary in 2025. This dual milestone highlights the enduring legacy of one of Japan’s most beloved franchises.
