The event “Modular Theater ~I Dream of Wires/SUBOTNICK~” is set to take place on January 11, 2025 (Saturday) at Theater Bacchus in Koenji, Tokyo, showcasing a documentary masterpiece about modular synthesizers.
This event will feature screenings of two films: ‘I Dream of Wires’ and ‘SUBOTNICK. ‘Released in 2014, ‘I Dream of Wires’ is a documentary that explores the evolution of modular synthesizers, detailing their rise, decline, and revival since the 2000s. It includes interviews with over 100 developers, musicians, and enthusiasts, providing a comprehensive look at the history of modular synths, with its first screening in Japan in nearly eight years. ‘SUBOTNICK’ follows Morton Subotnick, a trailblazer in electronic music, who remains a cult figure known as the “Father of Techno” even in his 90s. This documentary captures a live performance in surround sound and features psychedelic liquid lighting that visually traces Subotnick’s remarkable journey.
On the day of the event, there will be two sessions: the first starting at 12:00 and the second at 17:30. Each session will feature screenings of the two films, along with live performances by modular synth players. MizutaMa and isei ben will perform during the first session, while Sakai and JUN, known as a member of 80KIDZ, will take the stage in the second session. Tickets will be sold in a limited quantity of 30 for each session.
