Tsuyu to Makura’s stage play “Tachibana ni Uguisu” will be performed at Oji Little Theater in Tokyo from November 13 (Wed) to 17 (Sun).
Tsuyu to Makura, which advocates “gentle tragedy,” was launched in April 2018 by its leader, Runa Inoue. The group’s concept is “lovely because it is weak, and lovely because it does not change.”
With the theme of “change and tradition,” the performance depicts the days from encounter to bereavement between Kaname, a woman who inherited the role of “Okushi-sama,” a long-established cosmetics store’s traditional being with longevity at a young age, and Toki, a vivacious old woman who is not afraid of change.
Written and directed by Inoue. The cast includes Momoka Kobayashi (Tsuyu to Makura), Airi Murakami (Tsuyu to Makura), Ryusei Maeda (Hakobore), Shiho Naruse, Yuya Kida (Hachidori Airport), Kaiji Yamaguchi, Taiga Sone (Higashi no Borzoi), Masayuki Shimada (Kahazhu Shoya / studio4093), Yukiko Otsuka (Amayadori), and Yuriko Onuma (J.CLIP).
– In order to protect, we must change.
Runa Inoue, leader
It could be an organization, or a family. It could be an entity weaker than you, or even yourself.
The more “things we have to protect,” the less we can protect all of them. And so we cling to the form we have been able to maintain until now.
But sometimes it is the defensive posture that is to blame. Because people and the world are changing and moving forward at a dizzying pace.
Sometimes, even the people we wanted to protect are left behind.
By nature, people want to change.
When I see people who abandon change and continue to stand still in their place, I wish I could be the one who can protect them, because I think they have taken on too much.
Fear of change, difficulty in making choices, and suffering. To overcome all of this and become the person who can bear it correctly. In this way, I hope to weave the beauty of aging.
