Spotify’s listening data has released a ranking of Japan’s music scene for the first half of 2024.
The most-streamed song in Japan for the first half of 2024 is Creepy Nuts’ “Bling-Bang-Bang-Born.” This track not only broke the record for the fastest domestic song to reach 100 million streams, but it also held the top spot on Spotify Japan’s daily chart for 125 consecutive days from Thursday, January 18 to Tuesday, May 21.
Coming in second is tuki.’s “Bansanka.” This song gained popularity starting in the fall of 2023 through social media and became a long-term hit on Spotify. In January 2024, it was selected for Spotify’s “RADAR: Early Noise 2024” and achieved second place on Japan’s daily chart for the first time on Monday, January 22. It remained in the top 10 for over four months thereafter.
Additionally, debuting at number nine is Number_i’s first single “GOAT,” released in January 2024. Following the song’s release, Number_i published a variety of exclusive Spotify content, including “Clips” (vertical short videos under 30 seconds) and artist playlists. In the Clips released alongside “GOAT,” each member highlights the song’s key features from both a vocal and dance perspective.
In the first half of the year, the most streamed domestic song overseas followed the domestic rankings with Creepy Nuts’ “Bling-Bang-Bang-Born” taking the lead, followed by Fujii Kaze’s “Shinu no ga Ii wa” in second place, and King Gnu’s “SPECIALZ” in third.
“Bling-Bang-Bang-Born” achieved a streaming ratio of over 60% from international sources, and as of July 11th, the top countries and regions for streams excluding Japan are the United States, Mexico, Indonesia, Germany, and France.
Furthermore, in the top 10 ranking of domestic songs most streamed overseas in 2023, “Shinu no ga Ii wa,” YOASOBI’s “Idol,” imase’s “NIGHT DANCER,” Kenshi Yonezu’s “KICK BACK,” Teriyaki Boyz’s “Tokyo Drift (Fast & Furious),” and YOASOBI’s “Yoru ni Kakeru” also ranked this time, demonstrating sustained popularity driven by streaming dynamics.
In the first half of the year, the most shared song on social media from Spotify in Japan was JO1’s “Love seeker.” Following closely, Number_i’s “GOAT” took second place, and Travis Japan’s “T.G.I. Friday Night” secured third. Artists with strong fandoms, similar to 2023, dominated the top positions.
Spotify annually launches the “Spotify Wrapped” campaign at the end of each year, allowing listeners to reflect on their year through their listening history. This initiative presents playful insights into the most listened-to artists, songs, music genres, podcasts, and more throughout the year.
